Why should we continue to use Indexing Services when development has
apparently stopped and Desktop Search is the future according to MS?

Thanks in advance,

Cause it indexes web sites. I find wds uses too many resources, and you
can't do custom searches. For example in indexing services I can search on
custom html and office document properties. This hasn't been exposed in wds
yet.
