We are using Index Services on IIS6 and wish to report on the top search
terms. Is this possible without writing custom code to capture the terms
input by the users?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve,

Indexing Service doesn't involve a feature to calculate top search terms.
So yes, we need to write custom code to implement this kind of function,
e.g: saving users' queries into a database for later analyzing and
extracting similar words.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Hi Steve,

Some quick update on this issue.

I've confirmed with product group that Indexing Service is basically going
to be a depreciated product and the only things which would be done to it
are critical security fixes. Also as far as I know, there will be no new
features in Server 2008. The roadmap of Microsoft searching technology is:
For indexing on the client side use Windows Desktop Search(WDS); for the
server side use Office SharePoint Server for Search 2007.

If you need more detailed introduction info or have any further questions,
please feel free to let me know. My pleasure to be of help.

Have a great week.

Sincerely,

WenJun Zhang
